ARTS...
Renaissance Arts Academy schools have an academically rigorous, performing arts-infused curriculum. All RenArts students take English, history, mathematics, science and Latin every year – exceeding A-G requirements for UC/CSU admission – while undertaking the kind of focused arts study strongly associated with academic and personal success. The RenArts academic and arts faculties work together to help students actively apply the self-discipline and collaborative skills developed through serious music and dance training to expand options in all aspects of their lives.
All students select a music or dance focus and commit to working toward specific arts goals, including yearly sequential coursework in music theory, arts theory, aural and vocal skills, movement, and percussion. In addition, RenArts provides the opportunity for students to attend many performances throughout the year, both at school and on field trips.
Performance is a representation of the shared work of the school community. Ensemble performance skills and practices are integrated throughout all aspects of RenArts’ program and all grade levels, encompassing a 360 degree exploration of the creative experience. Throughout the day, scholars are engaged in learning experiences that help them develop the discipline, focus, and respect for the shared work and for others that RenArts performers need. These skills and practices are developed over time through a layered program of study that includes:

-
Arts-infused curricula
-
+ Arts focus groups
-
+ After school conservatory
-
+ Additional rehearsals, including open rehearsals
-
+ Public performances, including Winter and Year End Shows

During their time at RenArts, scholars grow into their roles as performers. Show participation is determined by advisors based on scholars’ demonstrated degree of comfort with performance, their collaborative skills, and the level of contribution they bring to the group.
